First Round underway!

OK, so the big Bob Seger-Nick Lowe match was not the game of the century. Lowe pounded Seger, as Tony predicted, and now Lowe plays the goofy Blind Boys of Alabama in Rnd 2

After Round One, we have 2 13-seeds still alive!: Johnny Cash and The Ramones! We have 2 12 seeds still alive: John Lennon and Alejandro Escovedo!! Lennon and Cash will square off, and so will The Ramones and Escovedo. Two of these teams will be the amazing stories of 2008, and they may even keep on going.

How about Beck, almost blowing it Vs the upstart Hugo Montenegro?? Oh my God! That was going to be huge until Beck somehow pulled it out.

OK< today we had upsets: The first one: 12-Alejandro Escovedo took out the 5-Ziggy Marley! Many had Marley going very far. "I don't know what Ziggy was on, but it sure was illegal", said the jubilant Escovedo. Escovedo put up a buzzer beater shot with time running out to eliminate the favored Marley. This is Star Wars at it's best.

Speaking of huge! The 13-Ramones! Took them 2 OTs but they did it, they took out 4-Rilo Kiley-a group that both Mark and Tony wanted! This is unbelievable...and now in Tony's West division, Escovado will play the Ramones! The Esco-Ramo winner here will play the winner between Devo and the powerful Flaming Lips.....Mark says the Flaming Lips will not have a cake walk Vs Devo. Bob 1 and Bob 2, the Twin Towers if you will, can be dominating on the boards. Tony Signore said, "Ziggy played bad. The Fighting Bonzos came to play and this is what happens. I am having trouble in my Western Division."

The 13-Johnny Cash knocked out 4-Graham Parker! Not only did Cash win, he beat the stuffing out of Parker, 83-62. "Dang it", said MEwing. "I really was hoping I would perhaps be getting a new Graham Parker CD, this is a crushing defeat. I sorta hope Tony ends up with a Johnny Cash Christmas CD".

Mark's bracket was snatched twice on Thursday night and partially wadded up because of all the exciting text messaging and overall excitement of the games. Mark was told to leave the room, but he didn't. He stuck up for himself and allowed the games and the pomp to keep on going.

We had a Pope sighting people. The Pope was on hand at the Tom Petty-Warren Zevon game. The Pope entered the game late and made his way to the Petty side with a group of rowdy Cardinals. Pope Benedict refused to take off his huge Pope hat and it upset several dozen fans who couldn't see past it. Security refused to allow the Pope to do his Gun Safety show at halftime, and the Pope left in a huff before the 3rd quarter, upset at the play of Petty, the officiating and the security. A shoving match between Cardinals and young kids was broken up by authorities before anyone got hurt. The Pope Mobile squealed its tires and sped off. Zevon had NO trouble beating Tom Petty, to the Pope's chagrin. Zevon will play the 2-Drive By Truckers next.
