Regina Spektor sank a 3-point shot at the buzzer in regulation, to send the game into OT. Spektor played fired up the in the overtime period, and The Orca Whales took the Darth Vadar Trophy! The Dandy Warhols had a 9-point lead with 2 minutes left, and collapsed. The Warhols blew the game.
Don't forget, too, it took a last minute shot by Spector to keep their streak going when they beat the upstart Red Hot Chili Peppers in the quarter finals. Take time right now to play some Spektor on the video bar on the right...she did a fine job going 6-0 in a tough Star Wars this year. Spektor took on the Star Wars darlings in John Lennon and beat him. Next was the new darlings, the RHotChiliPeppers, it was a brutal game, and Spector won it. She obliterated what many said was the best team this year, The White Stripes...and then took down the Dandy Warhols. That is a tough road.
As the 2008 Star Wars Tournament ends, we had some great ups and downs. On the up side, was the talent and luck by Regina Spektor to win the whole thing. You have to say the Red Hot Chili Peppers played better than most people ever thought. They quickly went to the studio to release a new album, they must be gearing up for next year already. Johnny Cash, John Lennon, The Black Crowes, Alejandro Escovedo were surprising strong teams.
On the downside: 2-Beck without question disappointed. He is short, maybe he can't get enough rebounds or something. He may have to take the SniffNTheTears route where after so many bad showings, you just close the window on them. You have other groups that pretty much failed to show: Rilo Kiley, Ziggy Marley, The Sounds, The Foo Fighters. Pope Benedict was a total disruptive embarrassment with his terrorist-like antics. Coach Tony Signore as well: His coaching of the Flaming Lips and The White Stripes in the semi-finals leaves many people wondering if he ever really knew what was going on. He made many rookie mistakes. Maybe he should stop playing "the chicken dance" when his teams warm up.
2009 Star Wars is less than a year away. Will the Stripes, Lips, Warhols come back strong? Will John Lennon try to make another statement? Will Captain & Tennille bow out in Round One again like they have in every single Star Wars? Mark Ewing says the Rolling Stones will be good next year, with 3 Seniors, 1 Junior and 1 Freshman in the starting line-up. Stay tuned. There are new albums coming out.
