Regina Spektor Wins Star Wars 2008!!!!

Regina Spektor sank a 3-point shot at the buzzer in regulation, to send the game into OT. Spektor played fired up the in the overtime period, and The Orca Whales took the Darth Vadar Trophy! The Dandy Warhols had a 9-point lead with 2 minutes left, and collapsed. The Warhols blew the game.
Don't forget, too, it took a last minute shot by Spector to keep their streak going when they beat the upstart Red Hot Chili Peppers in the quarter finals. Take time right now to play some Spektor on the video bar on the right...she did a fine job going 6-0 in a tough Star Wars this year. Spektor took on the Star Wars darlings in John Lennon and beat him. Next was the new darlings, the RHotChiliPeppers, it was a brutal game, and Spector won it. She obliterated what many said was the best team this year, The White Stripes...and then took down the Dandy Warhols. That is a tough road.

As the 2008 Star Wars Tournament ends, we had some great ups and downs. On the up side, was the talent and luck by Regina Spektor to win the whole thing. You have to say the Red Hot Chili Peppers played better than most people ever thought. They quickly went to the studio to release a new album, they must be gearing up for next year already. Johnny Cash, John Lennon, The Black Crowes, Alejandro Escovedo were surprising strong teams.

On the downside: 2-Beck without question disappointed. He is short, maybe he can't get enough rebounds or something. He may have to take the SniffNTheTears route where after so many bad showings, you just close the window on them. You have other groups that pretty much failed to show: Rilo Kiley, Ziggy Marley, The Sounds, The Foo Fighters. Pope Benedict was a total disruptive embarrassment with his terrorist-like antics. Coach Tony Signore as well: His coaching of the Flaming Lips and The White Stripes in the semi-finals leaves many people wondering if he ever really knew what was going on. He made many rookie mistakes. Maybe he should stop playing "the chicken dance" when his teams warm up.

2009 Star Wars is less than a year away. Will the Stripes, Lips, Warhols come back strong? Will John Lennon try to make another statement? Will Captain & Tennille bow out in Round One again like they have in every single Star Wars? Mark Ewing says the Rolling Stones will be good next year, with 3 Seniors, 1 Junior and 1 Freshman in the starting line-up. Stay tuned. There are new albums coming out.

The Dandy Warhol Bohemians (34-1)

The Dandy Warhols have been around since around 1995, but they have been under the radar, until recently when many of their songs show up on TV shows and TV commercials. From Portland, Ore, the band is has been strongly influenced by The Velvet Underground. In 2000, the Dandys released "Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia" and the college radio scene picked up on them, and they have been in the limelight since. Mark Ewing released "Bohemian like you" as the first song on his critically praised 'Be Home Blyleven' and it is rumored the Dandy's will appear on his upcoming 'Shark Sandwich' CD. The Dandys have a new CD coming out in May of 2008.

The Dandy Warhols went into Star Wars 2008 as Ewing's strongest group, and the Number One Seed ranking was expected and granted. The Warhols lost only one game all year, a 4-point loss during the regular season to Jack Johnson. The Bohemians started off in the South and thrashed 16-David Bowie to no one's surprise. Next was the 8-Vapors, a group that DVitale, Yoda, and Mark Ewing predicted would be a force, but the Warhols beat them. Another tough assigment came up with the hard-charging 4-Yeah Yeah Yeahs, again a group that experts stated would be very tough. The Warhols sent them home and it was on to the 3-Tindersticks. The Warhols never fell behind, punched them out, and now the world was beginning to take notice. Where many experts and charlatans(Tony Signore) were proclaiming the 1-seeded Flaming Lips as Star Wars Champs, the Dandy Warhols were waiting for them and took them down. In a few days, everyone could be very familiar with "Thirteen Tales of Urban Bohemia".

The Regina Spektor Orca Whales (32-3)

Hey there, how are you doing? I'm doing pretty good myself. So you want more info on Regina Spektor. Well, I first heard her in the fall of 2007, when Tony Signore at Dog Records released "Beware of White Cars 2". The 'Blue' album from the double CD. I played this a lot and I noticed this song, "Hotel Song", a Joni Mitchellesque, ditty that I really grew to enjoy almost as much as these vegetables that I'm enjoying right now. Anyway, I think I heard a few more songs somewhere, and I told myself, "this is an artist I must hear more of." It is said that Spektor came out of the anti-folk New York Scene. Her music is quirky, highly eclectic, and always personal. Sounds like Mark Ewing material to me. She was born and raised in Moscow, Russia. Due to the music freeze of Star Wars, I have been unable to do much, but I do know that "Begin To Hope" which contains "Hotel Song", came out in 2006, and it is said to be pretty good. 'Seimglia', gave it 5 stars and said "If you are new to Regina Spektor this album will serve as a great introduction and if you are a long-time listener, acknowledge that she does not want her albums to sound the same. A masterpiece."
'Amedane' says this album is a little more 'poppier' than the others.

So I seeded her number one, I know, that is huge pressure for a relative unknown. Dick Vitale questioned her getting the high seed over teams like Ween, The Drive By Truckers and Graham Parker, but she did not disappoint. Beating these Star Wars invites: the sucky Pat Traverse, the hot Spirit, the upstart John Lennon, the dastardly Red Hot Chili Peppers, and then making a joke of the game with the Poweful Number One White Stripes, the Russian Rebounder heads into Monday night, hoping to make the CD "Begin to Hope" a 2008 Star Wars Immortal.

Regina Spektor to meet Dandy Warhols in Final Game!

The Flaming Lips played a good game Vs the Dandy Warhols, until late in the game when the Warhols pulled away for a solid win. Mark Ewing had his guys ready to play, Tony Signore failed to motivate the Flaming Lips.

In the late game, the amazing Regina Spektor pulled out to a huge 28 point lead over the hapless White Stripes, then she toyed around letting the Stripes come back a bit, but then Spektor let everyone know who the boss was.
