Will the Flea come naked? Will the Flea come with clothes? At any rate, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are coming at Mark Ewing again. Ewing is sick of them, and the madness will stop TODAY.


As The Regina Spektor Orca Whales got ready to head out to take on the stupid Chili Naked Pepppers, Coach Mark Ewing gave the following pep talk her, trying to mold her into a killing machine:

2 Vader Award Nominees announced

Tony Signore started talking and he said this: ok im feeling pretty good...how about you? lips and stripes have done well....i talked to both teams last night and here are their recommendations....first the stripes....both jack white and meg white pushed me to list "elephant".....but after a lot of hard drinking...mostly by meg..she can really put it away....i zeroed in on icky thump....jack gave his blessing..while meg could not be found and was later seen playing a drum solo on a plastic bucket out side of wrigley field....now for lips...they all wanted me to list itunes original..mostly because it has a cover of black sabbath's war pigs....and i really DO like this cover....but they pissed me off when they kept pushing their anti-war, anti-bush, anti-killing, anti-establishment ideas down my throat....enough already..look...they are a very good basketball team..and a great psychedelic concept band..but that fad left us all in the 60's man...so i chose ....ironically....at war with the mystics .....2006 release.... mostly b
ecause of the luke-warm review i read on itunes my Mr. African Taxi..in it he had this to say..."a beautiful collection of songs. may not be the best flaming lips album, but it is great." ok that's all i have for now...just waiting on the red hot chilli pepper run to ruin marks life....watch out regina...naked basketball is alive and well.....thank you for your time....

Kids remember: When your team gets to the Final Four, you need to announce the CD title that you desire if they win it all. So there will be FOUR CD Titles listed as we head into the games. No need to go thru the Pepper catalog Tony, they will be sucking wind and watching the games on television, naked.

The Vatican: Friend or Foe?

Disturbing news again at Star Wars. Pope Benedict arrived at the DBTruckers-Tindersticks game an hour before tip-off. Security Forces are stationed at all games to keep gangs, and popes from bringing guns to Star Wars. When the pope was stopped at the entrance gate, it is reported that Pope Benedict brandished a hand gun and put it in the face of a security person and demanded to be let in. "I'll never forget that gun in my face", said guard John Candy. "The pope kept asking me 'how did it feel' but I was too scared to answer him. "

At halftime, the Pope went to the floor with 6 Cardinals and began yet another Gun Safety Talk, which he calls the Safety Dance. But instead of a safety talk and dance, the pope did Cowboy tricks with his gun and holster, at onee time pointing the gun at the crowd, the scoreboard, and even at his own head. Then he left in a huff. Actually it was more like a minute and a huff. The Drive By Truckers won the game, 82-62, and will now face the 1-seeded Dandy Warhols on Sunday.

Ewing Sees Some Winners

Yep, I'm feeling pretty good. OK, I was dead wrong again about the Chili Peppers, I hate them so much and they get naked. I think Regina Spektor could feel self conscious around that Flea guy, he is just a raving lunatic. I do NOT want the Red Hot Chili Peppers to vomit all over Star Wars again, they already had their day. I choose the Spektor, but I will watch this game with hands over my eyes. Stop the madness NOW. The Peppers have made Tony get 5 teams left and I only have 3 left.

I know the White Stripes are very good, but man, do not count out the Mule. The Mule beat down Jack Johnson, DYoakam, and Led Zeppelin like they were Phillie pitchers. The Mule has played some tough teams and have beat them all.

I have seen the Flaming Lips quite a bit now. They are everything as advertised. I love seeing the old guard advace up the brackets, like the Clash. They CRUSHED the Black Crowes and that makes me like them even more. Joe Strummer will be rebounding and elbowing his way to the bitter end, perhaps hurting some Lips as he goes. Alas, the Lips are too good, and the Train is in vain. And they are in Flames. The Lips are in Flames, well yeah the Clash is burning up too. This is going nowhere.

Dandy Warhols-Drive By Truckers: Game of the Night. The Truckers will play tough as alwasy, the Warhols will either be on the game like the Bohemians that they are, or they will miss free throws and get capped. Either way, the 2 best teams came out of the South, and I would be happy with either.

I will be pulling for the Mule to upset the Stripes.

dandies seem to have an ax to grind...they exposed the daniel johnsons for the over-medicated, bi-polar, self-absorbed, weak-shooting team that they really are..big disappointment here...i would like to see the dbt take them out ...but don't count on it...dandies in a laugher...regina spector looked strong against an aging rock legend...lennon...we know you are the walrus....but did you have to play like one? spector has to shut down red hots out-side shooting...and for god sakes...watch the inside curl...we all see it coming...get a body on the cutter..yeeschhh...regina will have to get past the idea of guarding naked players...but i see her moving on...we all love the clash...but no doubt about it..playing with two dead guys as your power forward and center really hurts in the rebound category...lips dispense with the clash...they will be left all alone in the supermarket..they no longer can shop happily....best game of the weekend should be stripes and mule...the mule has a great coach and i havent seen the stripes pushed to limits yet...even though this will kill plenty of brackets around the world...including mine....i am calling for the slight upset with the gov't mule hitting a last second shot to take them to the promise land...

First Annual Stormtrooper Awards goes to Escovedo, Lennon

John Lennon and Alejandro Escovedo shared the 1st annual Star Wars Stormtrooper Award which goes to the lowest-ranked seeds to make the Sweet 16. John Lennon made it with wins over the 5-Foo Fighters and 13-Johnny Cash. The Alejandro Escovedo Hepatitus C's have beat the 5-Ziggy Marley and the 13-Ramones. These guys may not even be done yet! All I can say is, Who would thunk?

In other news, 2-Beck picked up his first Princess Lea Award for most embarrassing loss in Star Wars, when he lost to the Black Crowes in Rnd 2 and disappointed almost the whole world, including the Pope. They were being counted on to give the 1-Flaming Lips some heat in advancing up the brackets. In round 1, Beck did win, but it took a last second shot to beat 15-Hugo Montenegro. Geez. If Beck doesn't want to be serious about success, maybe he shouldn't try to be in this Star Wars stuff.

Mark Gives His thoughts

Dep. OK, first of all, The Red Hot Chili Peppers will be BEHEADED by Luna. I guarantee this. Luna will get a hold of that Flea guy and BEHEAD him and drink his blood. I will feel much better after this, I would love to see this. Ween should still be in this tournament.

Why are the Black Crowes favored over The Clash? The Clash will take this game.

Daniel Johnston is scaring me. The Dandy Warhols can't hit free throws, and this is something the Crashing Planes could take advantage of.

10-Chili Peppers SHOCK 2-Ween!!

The 10-Red Hot Chili Peppers got naked and pushed the favored 2-Ween out of the Star Wars 2008 Tournament. This is the 2nd straight time Ween has left the tournament too early. Flea was totally naked and scored 32 points. Losing Coach Mark Ewing was too mad to comment on the game. It is a known fact that he has never been a big fan of garbage groups like the Peppers. The Stupid Chili Peppers will play Luna next week and you know Mark Ewing hopes to see Luna crush them. Mark Ewing will NOT be getting a new Ween CD and that is too bad for everyone.

ONO! 12-John Lennon knocks out the 13-Johnny Cash!

When Johnny Cash came out in those bright yellow unis, fans were shocked. You would think they would come out in the black. Did it make a difference? Perhaps. John Lennon jumped to a big lead early and was never in any danger. With this big win, John Lennon is the last remaining Beatle alive, with big wins over the Foo Fighters and now the upstart Cash. Johnny Cash was gracious after the loss. "When I saw Yoko up in the stands, I thought to myself, 'Ono, this is gonna be a long game with her calling out the plays'", said Cash. "Those fans banging those plastic onos gave should get credit, it was hard to shoot with that noise.

Pope Busy with Easter, Star Wars, Guns.

Pope Gives shortest Easter Message in Papal History! Two Minutes, 17 seconds.

Pope Benedict, in his special Star Wars Motley, gave a short message, mumbling about stopping the War in Iraq, he spoke for a few minutes on gun safety, then was rushed out of St Peters and jumped on a jet. He is currently heading to the United States to watch the Red Hot Chili Peppers take on Ween. The Pope did not comment on who he was pulling for. The Pope asked the Press not to delay him otherwise he could miss the opening tip off. He said he would have more words of wisdom after the Star Wars tournament ends, and his Gun Safety Tour would still be very active during the games.

In a game that had to have Coach Tony Signore sweating bullets, The Flaming Lips came from behind to snatch an upset bid from Devo. The Spudboys led pretty much the whole game until The Flaming Lips played hard in the final minute to vault themselves into the Sweet 16. Will The FLips be the next Beck?

The Sunday Games: I personally like the upset teams still fighting it out. You have the Lennon/Cash game....no one can call it. Don't forget 12-Alejandro Escovedo Vs 13-The Ramones, where everyone thought it was going to be Rilo Kiley Vs Ziggy Marley. Jack Johnson has been under the radar, maybe this game Vs The Shins will show the world his talent. The 3-Government Mule aspires to be the 4th 3-seed in the Sweet 16, they play 6-Dwight Yoakam. We still have some 1-seeds too, nothing is automatic here: The 1-White Stripes Vs the 9-Jeff Healy, and the 1-Dandy Warhols Vs the 8-Vapors. 7-Warren Zevon will take on the tough 2-Drive By Truckers. We will have the whole Sweet 16 by tonight.

3-Clash Stop 6- Stone Temple Pilots

Mick Jones threw in 25 points, but it was the tough rebounding of Joe Strummer that surged the Sandinistas in their win over the 6-Stone Temple Pilots. The Clash will look forward to a good game Vs the 7-Black Crowes. This is the tough West Division where most experts think the Flaming Lips will emerge, but these are 2 very tough teams here.

7-Black Crowes BEAT 2-Beck!!!

2-Beck was a total embarrassment in the 2008 Star Wars. I think eveyone involved was pulling for him to win. After a last-second win over Hugo Montenegro, The Beck Cheese Whiz lost to the 7-Black Crowes (winners over Radiohead). The Crowes are most likely to play the 3-Clash, if they beat STP. But YES, BECK IS OUT.

When WFRT radio asked Tony why he was crying, Signore stated "I'm not crying, it is just raining on my face. Besides, The Black Crowes have a new CD that I want."


Bad Moon Rising? 3-Luna Send 11-John Fogerty Home
The 3-Luna had no trouble sending 11-John Fogerty home. Some people, like Tony Signore, thought Fogerty's upset of 6-The Sounds was a sign of a powerful team. Luna put them down like an old man down the road returning soup at a deli. Luna will face the 2-Ween/10-RHCPepper winner.

First Round underway!

OK, so the big Bob Seger-Nick Lowe match was not the game of the century. Lowe pounded Seger, as Tony predicted, and now Lowe plays the goofy Blind Boys of Alabama in Rnd 2

After Round One, we have 2 13-seeds still alive!: Johnny Cash and The Ramones! We have 2 12 seeds still alive: John Lennon and Alejandro Escovedo!! Lennon and Cash will square off, and so will The Ramones and Escovedo. Two of these teams will be the amazing stories of 2008, and they may even keep on going.

How about Beck, almost blowing it Vs the upstart Hugo Montenegro?? Oh my God! That was going to be huge until Beck somehow pulled it out.

OK< today we had upsets: The first one: 12-Alejandro Escovedo took out the 5-Ziggy Marley! Many had Marley going very far. "I don't know what Ziggy was on, but it sure was illegal", said the jubilant Escovedo. Escovedo put up a buzzer beater shot with time running out to eliminate the favored Marley. This is Star Wars at it's best.

Speaking of huge! The 13-Ramones! Took them 2 OTs but they did it, they took out 4-Rilo Kiley-a group that both Mark and Tony wanted! This is unbelievable...and now in Tony's West division, Escovado will play the Ramones! The Esco-Ramo winner here will play the winner between Devo and the powerful Flaming Lips.....Mark says the Flaming Lips will not have a cake walk Vs Devo. Bob 1 and Bob 2, the Twin Towers if you will, can be dominating on the boards. Tony Signore said, "Ziggy played bad. The Fighting Bonzos came to play and this is what happens. I am having trouble in my Western Division."

The 13-Johnny Cash knocked out 4-Graham Parker! Not only did Cash win, he beat the stuffing out of Parker, 83-62. "Dang it", said MEwing. "I really was hoping I would perhaps be getting a new Graham Parker CD, this is a crushing defeat. I sorta hope Tony ends up with a Johnny Cash Christmas CD".

Mark's bracket was snatched twice on Thursday night and partially wadded up because of all the exciting text messaging and overall excitement of the games. Mark was told to leave the room, but he didn't. He stuck up for himself and allowed the games and the pomp to keep on going.

We had a Pope sighting people. The Pope was on hand at the Tom Petty-Warren Zevon game. The Pope entered the game late and made his way to the Petty side with a group of rowdy Cardinals. Pope Benedict refused to take off his huge Pope hat and it upset several dozen fans who couldn't see past it. Security refused to allow the Pope to do his Gun Safety show at halftime, and the Pope left in a huff before the 3rd quarter, upset at the play of Petty, the officiating and the security. A shoving match between Cardinals and young kids was broken up by authorities before anyone got hurt. The Pope Mobile squealed its tires and sped off. Zevon had NO trouble beating Tom Petty, to the Pope's chagrin. Zevon will play the 2-Drive By Truckers next.

Behold the Number One Seeds: South: The Dandy Warhols, MidWest: Regina Spektor, West: The Flaming Lips, East: The White Stripes. Look for these groups to dominate, but beware of upsets.

Star Wars 2008 announces that Pope Benedict XVI will be showing up at halftimes of random games-unannounced and with a gun..... around the nation to demonstrate Gun Safety. Stick around to hear his "Why Guns Aren't Fun" speech.

"I know my gun is empty, so some unsafe practices are OK, as long as one is demonstrating poor habits in order to teach the kids, " said The Pope. "A gun is not always loaded. There is a misconception about that. I hear adults tell kids, 'A gun is always loaded'. What? I want to clear that up as well."

Bad time for Sheryl Crow. She was having a great season until losing to 38 Special and has fallen mightily in the rankings.

The Donnas have replaced Billy Idol(bad knees). Idol, a familiar face in Star Wars has been a non-factor all year.

Look at Beck, who has been a regular Star Wars player over the past, but until this year had never gone too far. He has been solid all year and many think he has a chance to win it all.

The Floaters, as tradition has it, will be the 65th team, playing in the 'play-in' game against an undetermined opponent. Who can remember their hit "Float On" in 1978?

Fun Facts: Did you know that from 1976-1979, Star Wars winners were determined by Ping Pong matches? Yes they were. They still talk about Lobo's wicked serve to this day.

Rules 2008

Star Wars 2008 goes into a slightly different direction now with Tony Signore taking over some of the duties. In late February, Mark and Tony submited pre-tournament seedings to determine if any groups showed up on the same lists. This is called 'Seed Wars'.There were three groups: Beck, Rilo Kiley and Green Day. Tony had seeded all three higher than Mark therefore Tony kept them and Mark had to pick new groups.

Any group can be cut and a new group picked up on a first come basis via Emails until we decide to lock up the groups.

Any group can be seeded in any order EXCEPT the locked-in seeds from the Seed Wars. There will be a final Seeding for all groups shortly before the first game.

Mark gets the Midwest and South for his higher seeds, Tony gets the East and West for his higher seeds. Groups will be set in place BEFORE the actual teams are chosen.

The Debate: In years past, winning a Star Wars Championship allowed a group to automatically get a bid every year after, but some groups are now obscure and not talented for today's tougher play...new rule for 2008: Each coach has to choose ONE (more if wanted) former Star Wars Champion.

***Losing Coach must purchase a CD for the winning coach from the team that wins the Star Wars Trophy***.

Mr Star Wars Getting Ready for the games

Greetings. How are you doing? I'm doing pretty good myself. I don't have too many records but I do have this: back in 2003, who can remember the surprising Neil Young? He came in at just a 10-seed and lined up first against the 7-seed Beatles. The Southermen beat the Qarrymen! The fans and experts were stunned!!! In the 2nd round, Young drew the powerful U2, who had crushed 15-Supertramp. Neil Young knocked off 2-U2!!!! Neil Young was the talk of the town. Who would have thought that? Not me. In round 3, 3-seeded Train finally stopped 10-Neil Young. Train would go on to win the 2003 Star Wars, beating CCR. Whenever I think of Neil Young, I always remember him and his great run of 2003.

2003 also had the 12-Motels knocking off 5-Collective Soul.....as well as the 4-seeded Pink Floyd! But then the stupid Red Hot Chili Peppers beat them. The Motels have not qualified in Star Wars ever since.

I forget what year it was, but Ringo Starr beat the Beatles(with him playing for the Beatles), as a solo artist. This year 2008 should feature both John Lennon and George Harrison. At press time, the Beatles (10-10) have not qualified.
